The Arizona Cardinals return to Mexico City to play the San Francisco 49ers this November 2022! Fans might remember that the last time the Cards took on the 49ers in Mexico City went pretty well for the franchise, beating their rivals 31-14 at Estadio Azteca. This year, with post-pandemic excitement reaching all-time highs, fans will pour into Mexico City’s largest stadium usually reserved for soccer games, to cheer on their favorite team.
According to NBC Sports, the history of the NFL hosting games outside of the U.S. stretches back nearly 100 years, with its first game played in 1926 in Toronto. The Cardinals were part of the league’s push to promote the NFL as a worldwide sport back in 2005 when they played the 49ers in Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
